Our Care Workers ~ Covid 19 Pandemic Response ~ 2020 ~ the present
Covid-19 presents harsh challenges for those in the medical field. After interviewing several brave care workers in the San Francisco Bay Area, I developed a deep appreciation for how trying their jobs can be. They risk their own lives and the lives of their family’s, on a daily basis to ensure we are all are safe. In these photographs I capture the dichotomous lives of these women who work tirelessly on ten to twelve hour shifts helping patients and staff while wearing uncomfortable protective gear. Their faces show determination and grit while wearing their PPE, then both exhaustion and relief after discarding it.
I am moved by the enormous contributions these valiant medical workers make to keep us safe from sickness and disease. It is important to see their tired faces underneath their protective gear and recognize the toll it takes. In interviews, these brave women share their struggles and triumphs which highlight who they are and how the pandemic has changed their lives.
These care workers share a common humanity as mothers, wives, daughters, sisters and friends... not just medical workers. These women are warriors.
